COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

The emotional wellbeing of the children in school has a direct effect on their learning and achievement. This course demonstrates how to augment emotional wellbeing in vulnerable children and how best to manage their specific needs within a school setting. The course focusses on the needs of children who are in care but also highlights the difficulties faced by some children who have been adopted.  This course is recommended for teachers with responsibility for looked after children, but is also suitable for NQTs, experienced teachers and support staff.  

 

Delegates should understand how education with empathy impacts on the emotional wellbeing of the child and how boosting resilience promotes educational achievement. 

 

This course includes refreshments and lunch.

SESSION 1:  Physical and Emotional Wellbeing

  • Environmental factors and the five senses. 

  • Linking emotional stability to learning. 

 

SESSION 2:  Resilience 

  • Resilience, wellbeing and learning. 

  • Education with empathy. 

 

SESSION 3: Implementing best practice.

  • Practical ways to build resilience in school.

  • Planning resilience boosting activities. 

  • The power of smiling. 

  • How parents, foster carers and adoptive parents contribute to planning.
